AFTER REVIEWING THE REVIWS I DECIDED TO GIVE WEBROOT A TRY, SINCE INSTALLING ON MY P. C I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING VERY SLOW, AND I DON’T FIND IT TO BE VERY EFFECTIVE.

I don’t normally use Webroot AntiVirus with SpySweeper, but a friend asked me to install the paid version on his brand new laptop. He had purchased from Best Buy. A couple valid concerns:
    (1) I installed today 6/23/2010, and the license indicated it expired 12/20/2010. I guess that means it’s only a 6 month subscription.
    (2) FREEZES Windows 7 64-bit repeatedly. Manual reboot, then freezes again. Taskmanager cannot kill the process, or reduce its priority. I had removed all other pre-installed (trial) antivirus software before installing Webroot, so it isn’t a conflict or locked files. Perhaps it is Windows Defender conflicting with Webroot?
    (3) I see lots of others on the internet with the same problems over the last several years (running different operating systems). You’d think after several years they could isolate and fix this problem. Or maybe it is different in Windows 7 64-bit, which has been out for 7 months already. Hmmm. . . 7 months. . . no fix?
    (4) I can’t even get Windows to respond enough to remove Webroot. This is bad. (update – SAFE MODE allows uninstall in Windows 7)

I hope Webroot can resolve this issue in the near future and redeem their product.

It does seem that some others have had a more positive experience than me. I’d be curious to hear from others with 64-bit Windows 7 and 32-bit Windows 7 to see if this is not an issue in the 32-bit version, or if we can narrow it down to other factors such as Windows Defender.

I love Webroot antivirus. Their products work wonderfully and have easy to understand menus. I have had great experiences with Webroot products and even participated in the beta testing for new products. Being short on cash, I recently purchased this at Target as opposed to the more expensive version. I should have bought the expensive one. I have Windows Vista, and this program has compatibility issues with newer Operating Systems (even though it says it’s compatible with Windows 7). The BIG problem I have run into (only having this installed for 4 days now) is issues with opening context menus (a. k. a. right-clicking anything in Windows Explorer). Right-clicking causes Windows Explorer to crash and reboot because the “Custom Sweep” option they added to every context menu is not compatible with anything later than Windows XP.

I have troubleshooted this problem using a program called ShellExView, a solution I found in a google search. It worked great and pinpointed my problem.

Overall, if you can deal with the hassle it’s a fine product. However, if you’re not so computer savvy and don’t want to deal with all the technicalities, I would recommend the new Webroot product over this one.

Webroot is the best anti-spyware/virus software I have ever used. Tried other programs like Norton & with Webroot it doesn’t bog down or slow your computer. Very easy to install as well as use. Keeps your computer running smoothly. Love it wouldn’t use any other!

I just purchased this product to replace my Windows LiveOne Care which expires in April. I am very happy with Webroot, it was easy for me to install and have had no problems. I’m very glad I purchased Webroot as my replacement.
