Really there is nothing good I can say about these speakers. They have no base and the sound quality is terrible.

Save the money. Spend a little more for something better.

I didn’t expect much but this didn’t even meet those expectations.

I chose the Altec Lansings over the Logitech and other offerings based on my outstanding experience with AL’s iphone/ipod docking station. The iphone docking station plays my music from my iphone and it sounds like a seriously good sound system and costs very little – around $120. So I thought that perhaps AL would get the same incredible sound out of these computer speakers.

Nope. Not even CLOSE. I can’t even believe they are made by the same company. The sound is muddy and generally poor. I have a friend with the Logitech speakers and they sound crisp and punchy. I should have gone with them, but I really thought AL was going to be good because of the way my iphone station sounds.

I highly recommend avoiding these if you care at all about your sound. And if you don’t, save $20 and get a $10 pair of speakers!

These computer speakers are relatively decent, but they’re not going to win any awards. Each speaker has two cones in it, so that’s an improvement over most low-budget speakers. For their size, they sound okay.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the power switch is awkward. It’s a dial like the volume switch, but it can only be turned a few degrees (left is off, right is on), so that’s kinda weird. I don’t mind having the power switch distinct from the volume control, I just wish the power switch were a button instead of a dial.

The style is a bit dated. They look good, but they remind me of speakers my uncles had back in the 70s. They are stable, though. You won’t have to worry about the speakers falling over.

On drawback is that the audio cable that connects to the computer is too short. It’s only six feet long, and since it comes from the right speaker, it barely reaches my computer on the left side of my desk.

Altec Lansing has always made good audio peripherals for MP3′s, desktop and laptops. Their price range is always on the affordable side and the performance is better or above average. In fact, built-in HD speakers in my new laptop are Altec Lansing. They provide premium sound in a very small configuration. The VS2620 is one of those offered by Altec Lansing to supplement sound if your desktop or laptop have weak-sounding speakers. At this price, the sound is acceptable. I would classify the sound reproduction are neither low or high quality, just mid-range or enough to offer a better than average satisfying listening experience. The way the speakers are built are pretty solid and they have two 3-inch tweeters in mesh cloth per speaker. Bass is marginal. You will not expect any boom-sounding bass from these speakers, just enough to amplify any bass from the sound you are listening to. It has control knobs for the power, volume and tone and an auxiliary port if you need to use these speakers for an external device. I use this mainly for my MP3 and they are great. Tried it as an external speaker for my TV and they also perform great. But don’t expect any surround sound capability. Like what I said previously, these speakers are just enough to amplify sound to desired listening levels without expecting high performance. Overall, for the price it is being offered, its decent enough to be used on a constant level. 4-star is the maximum I can give and I recommend it if you don’t want to spend a lot but still desire the reputation of a brand name audio peripheral maker.

These are a significant upgrade from my old speakers. They are sleek in design and have clear sound. I especially appreciate that they are much louder than my old speakers. I have a monitor big enough to watch a video from the other room but the speakers couldn’t produce enough sound to hear from that far away. These get loud enough to possibly annoy my neighbors-whom I don’t like anyway :) Installation was super easy. Item was packed well though I was concerned because one speaker clearly has a loose rattling part when you turn it from side to side but it does not seem to effect preformance. Cords are of sufficient length for normal desktop use. The Aux jack seems superfulous to me. I can just as easily plug my MP3 player into the computer and play it that way. Cons: 1. Footprint is larger than my old set due to the wide base of the speaker. 2. Would have rather had a headphone jack than the Aux jack.
