@almightygun I think he needs to use the routers public address inorder to get to that server from outside (internet). Not sure why he is tunnelling to the same workstation. thats kinda funny…

@almightygun I think he needs to use a public address, otherwise when you type that local address fom another network you wont get anywhere outside that local network.

    Derrick can you clarify?
    Thanks…

when I type ipconfig my server dosn’t show up, just my wireless connection. Is that the default gateway i type in? if so, what do i type in the internet address box? if i put my pc’s name or ip address it won’t connect. I am trying to connect my fathers, brothers, and my pc together, we are in differen’t cities. Please help and explain in real words.

There’s a big error in this video. On the client he should have put in the gateway address, and not the VPN server’s internal LAN IP address. His client was on the same LAN, so it worked for him, but if he was actually in a remote location (the whole point of setting up a VPN) and not on the same LAN, it would not have worked.

@SonicOrbStudios VPN allows your computers or devices to be connected anywhere around the world where there is internet connection. Workplaces use this to keep their workers connected. A VPN is useful because if you are, for example, at an internet cafe, and you want to go check your email, connecting to your VPN encrypts the connection so that nobody can see what you are doing.

    same issue here, error 800.
The remote connection was not made? because the attempted VPN tunnels failed. The VPN server might be unreachable. If this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters required for IPsec negotiation might not be configured properly.

Maybe someone can help. Already forward ports 1723 and GRE 47 to vpn server. also enabled vpn pass through.

So what’s the main reason to setup a VPN compared to just jumping on your standard network?
