For the price they are okay. However, they are not at all what I expected from Altec Lansing. The sub-woofer has no real clarity and sounds like a cardboard box with a speaker in it. In other words, no real definition of sound,
It was worth it to keep them and save as a gift in the future for someone as the cost to ship them back is at least $25. 00 give or take a couple of bones. I ended up ordering a more expensive model. BUT, they look cool. And in this world of crappy music on the radio and terrible television, that is all that seems to matter anyways to most people. You can’t make Justin Timberlake or RAP music sound good on any brand of speakers, can you?

SOMEONE WROTE AND SAID THE SPEAKER SOUNDS LIKE A SPEAKER IN A BOX, I HAVE TO DISAGREE. HOWEVER, IF A PERSON IS INTO ELECTRONICS THEY WOULD KNOW A ‘SUBWOOFER’ IS ONLY A NICE SPEAKER PLACED INSIDE OF A BOX FOR BASS ONLY; THE CLARITY COMES FROM THE ACTUAL SPEAKERS x 2. I WILL SAY ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT QUITE AS NICE AS HAVING A 750 WATTS OR MORE SOUND SYSTEM, IT DOES THE JOB GREATLY CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER/LAPTOP OR TO YOUR MP3 PLAYER. THIS WILL DO JUST FINE. I THINK IT IS AN AWESOME DEVICE TO HAVE IN ONE ROOM IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO DISTURB YOUR NEIGHBORS IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT; HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE THE SUBWOOFER UP LOUDLY, YOU WILL BE DISTURBING THEM (NICE BASS). . . I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS MORE THAN THE TYPICAL COMPUTER 1 TO 5 WATTS SPEAKERS. I HAVE ANOTHER PAIR OF ALTEC SPEAKERS WITHOUT THE SUBWOOFER AND THEY ARE CLEAR IN SOUND, BETTER THAN WHAT I THOUGHT WITHOUT THE SUBWOOFER. IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE THEM YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS SELECTION. ONE MORE THING TO ADD, THE SUBWOOFER/SPEAKER IS UNDERNEATH THE BOX (IT SHOULD HAVE A PROTECTED SHIELD), RATHER AWKWARD PLACE TO BE, BUT IT DOES HAVE THE HOLE FOR THE SOUND OF THE BASS TO COME OUT CLEAR. I RECOMMEND IF YOU SIT IT ON THE FLOOR (I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THAT), IT WILL MUFFLE OUT THE GREAT SOUND, BUT IF YOU DO, PLACE IT ON TOP OF A PIECE OF PLYWOOD. HAPPY SOUND WITH SOME BOOM!!! :)

    1. sound quality = 3. 5/5
    2. value = 3/5
    3. nice that it has adjustable volume/bass/treble on the satellite speakers rather than the bass box (which for me, goes under my desk)
    4. sucks that the power switch is located on the bass box (which, again, is under my desk)
    5. aux output on satellite speaker is nice for headphones, but missing a mic input
    6. for some, the satellite speaker wires might be short, and are hardwired (not RCA jacks)

conclusion: not bad, not great. will be just fine for most, but falls short for the anal retentive geeks, such as myself.

Have had for a year. Am pleased with the sound. I too almost put my finger through the woofer because it is unprotected. I view this to be a design flaw and deducted a star for it (from a 4 to a 3). I now have a dented subwoofer and I do not know if it is affecting the sound or if this will affect durability of the system.

I dig these speakers a lot, and especially for what I paid for them.

I’d never bought Altec Lansing before because I’m kind of a snob when it comes to audio and I’ve never bought a low end set of speakers before. That said, I like these speakers a lot for computer audio purposes, including gaming.
