So far, Win 7 is pretty solid. I was using the RC for about 5 months and then purchased a new computer last month which came with the Win 7 upgrade. On the new computer Win 7 has been great with only a few issues and design complaints.

I say, drop Vista as soon as you can and upgrade to Win 7. Ask Micro$oft to reimburse you some of your cost for the headache they gave you with Vista.

I’m not sure why anyone would want to praise this upgrade software for Windows 7 Starter edition, let alone pay $75 for it.

Windows 7 Starter has to be the biggest software ripoff in a while.
While I would expect to sacrifice some OS functionality in the basic version of Windows I find that Microsoft punishing my choice to buy a netbook preloaded with 7 Starter is both brutal and inexcusable.
7 Starter does NOT allow you to change your desktop background.
7 Starter does NOT allow you to change your theme for Windows.
7 Starter does NOT allow you to change your screensaver.

Windows 7 Starter also does not include Aero Glass and doesn’t allow switching between users without having to log off.

I could go on but do your own homework and look up everything 7 Starter lacks. Then to have to pay $75 to get most features I already have in my 6 year old XP PC becomes even more ridiculous.
Microsoft ought to be ashamed and should take notice: Netbooks are revolutionizing the PC industry, 7 Starter makes a mockery of it and and is an insult to the consumer. I’m about to open the door and head over to Apple.

The software does what is says it does and does it at what it says it costs. The earlier reviews on licensing are spot on about migrating. Beware that even paying for the new MS process of upgrade from starter not only gets you back to where you expected if you used any recent MS OS, but you additionally loose the ability to not have to pay for the software again if the system breaks (and is slightly too old to get an exact replacement). What next, subscription OS releases where you have to pay ongoing just to use it.

Microsoft, in all it corporate glory has decided not to give it’s followers a full
blown operating system when they purchase Windows 7. Instead, depending on which
flavor of Windows 7 you have, you may or may not have the functionality you are looking for. If you don’t, well you can always upgrade to the next version of 7 and
of course spend more money. As for the operating system it self, it is becoming more MAC like every release. Not a bad thing, just an interesting one. I do find this version of windows much more stable than any of the other previous versions of windows I have lived with in the past.

Its too bad they don’t just charge a little more and install the right operating software from the manufacturer. The upgrade gives you more options than windows 7 starter. It is easy to install, and took about a half an hour.
