Hacking Wall Street : Attacks and Countermeasures is a very informative book. This is a must read for anyone involved with computer security or anyone involved with fraud. The book is definitely geared toward the “tech” people, but is written in a manner that anyone can understand it.

I would also recommend this book for anyone curious about internet security or scams. The book contains many tips on how to spot emails and other programs that can compromise your system.

“Hacking Wall Street: Attacks and Countermeasures” presents Johnny Q. Public with information vital in today’s ecommerce society. It seems like just yesterday that you were hearing about someone having their identity stolen, a hacker gaining access to secure information, or a corporation losing a grand sum due to flaws within their security measures. For the most part, it has quieted down. . . but that just speaks to the quieter methods now being used against both businesses and consumers. Although there are “cracks” in problems that allow for some of this activity to sneak through, there is also one problem that is cumbersome and yet common place to all. . . people. Employees, on any level, without the proper training or knowledge can become the weak link in the chain. The information contained in this book will definitely be an eye opener for most, and a wake up call to others.

Although outside of my general niche, I found the information presented in a clear and concise manner allowing those readers without a security or IT background can still glean some useful tips. An additional and pertinent tool for any business security library. . .

“Hacking Wall Street: Attacks and Countermeasures” by Karlos Krinklebine is about computer security, fraud, and regulation of confidental information on the internet. This is an important guide for those who work in the networks and security industry. I would also recommended this book as a text for students in their information security course in college.

If you do not fall into those two catagories, you can still utilize this book for knowledge of the different fraud, hacks, viruses, and other scams on the internet that can steal private information from anyone on their computer. The book is technical, so you might have to look up a few phases and words here and there, but its a very helpful book to fall back on if you run into online fraud and theft.

Clearly not a book for everyone but for those interested in cybercrime and countermeasures it is spot on. Though the book focuses on a specific industry it is clear the threats discussed apply to almost any business that relies on, or uses, personal computers.

Kudos to Mr Krinklebine for making the content useful to a wide audience as opposed to just ‘geeks’, though security ‘geeks’ should find it fascinating as well.

There are a handful of books that should be “must-reads” for anyone responsible for computer fraud and this is one of them.

Learning the information in this book will help you learn current attacks and hacking techniques, and avoid being sold “snake oil” by various security vendors. This book manages to explain the technical in very non-technical ways, however it won’t disappoint those in security with technical backgrounds.

If you are in risk, compliance, anti-fraud, anti-money laundering, information security or in business management you should read this book. Hands down, Hacking Wall Street should be on every desk for quick reference.
