The Beginner’s Guide To Buying Tech Gadgets
Aug 31st, 2010 by Sam-Frea

If you have little experience in buying technical equipment, buying a product like a FTA Satellite Receiver can be a frustrating experience. When it comes to technical products, there are thousands of models to choose from.

Even worse: Everyone has an opinion about everything and it's hard to find out what really works and what not. Sometimes people just hate a product because they dislike the brand itself.

If you want to cut through all this noise and distraction, here are my 3 best tips to buy tech stuff:

Tip #1 – Compare Online Reviews

The first place to start your investigation is online reviews from credible online stores such as Amazon or Alternate. A great place to start is Amazon.com. You will find dozens of reviews for almost every product in the marketplace.

Don’t read only the first review. Sometimes the review we read is not representative at all. Many manufacturers pay people to give their products positive reviews, so it's important to read both the negative and the positive ones, and read between the lines for arguments given. Make sure you read at least some reviews.

Tip #2 – Use The Money Back Guarantee

Buy 3 products, try them out and keep the one you like - this is a very sneaky tactic but I've been disappointed so many times that I don't feel bad about it. If you find that one doesn't fulfill your criteria's you can make use of the money back guarantee.

Tip #3 – Buy What You Need, Not What You Want

Many people are overwhelmed by the massive number of different features of the products. Every product has different features that all sound nice to us. That’s why we often get trapped in an analysis paralysis. We suddenly want the “best” product with “all” features.

Instead write a list of features that you really need and search for a product that fulfills your requirements.
